Portrait paintings made of concentric circles of acrylic paint by South African artist Gavin Rain. The works are influenced by pointillist painters such as Georges Seurat, Russian avant garde of the early 1900’s, and modern digital images. The artist encourages viewers to look at the works from two vantage points: up close to see the texture and layering of paint into concentric circles, and from a distance to see how the individual dots come together as a whole to form a face.
I usually dislike art that doesn’t communicate anything. I also hate it when I’m viewing art and I don’t know the message. I wanted to avoid that – everyone has to get my message – which is to step back.
