Photo manipulations by Los Angeles-based photographer Devin Mitchell combining human faces with animals. The project was inspired by the conditions of large majestic animals held in captivity by zoos. To represent the loss of freedom and the inability of the animals to speak for themselves, he asked his models to cover half their faces and mouths with their hands. Photos of animals, which he shot while visiting several wildlife facilities, were blended in using Photoshop brushes and painting techniques.
I believe in zoology, and the study of ethology. However, I also believe that large majestic animals should be kept in free range, land reserve environments, where there are no fences for dozens of miles. After all, this country owns so much land and I just wondered how I can spark a conversation about it.+
