Ornate, biomechanical illustrations of animals by Los Angeles-based artist Ben Kwok (aka BioWorkZ). The complex, hyper-detailed artworks depict the animals with a layer of armor that probably developed as a defense mechanism over the centuries. The drawings were inspired by the works of H.R. Giger, the Swiss surrealist who created the creature in the Alien films, and Alfonse Mucha, a late 18th-century Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist.
Highly detailed, rendered, polished illustration is what I strive for. I want the artwork to pull the viewer in and hold them hostage. I want the image to be initially striking, and when the viewer gets up close and personal, I want the image to unfold into greater details while the viewer absorbs the intricacies and attention to little details. That's what I personally love about illustrations and that's how I would like my art to be perceived.
