New paintings by Los Angeles-based artist Esao Andrews. Inspired by artists such as Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Alfons Mucha, and Joe Sorren, Andrews makes surreal and figurative paintings that blends mysterious narratives with erotic imagery and Gothic grotesque themes. His highly detailed works sometimes meander into the realm of nostalgia and resonates with the subconscious. Through the intuitive juxtaposition of imagery, the viewer is left to interpret the meaning of the symbolic gestures.
On view at Thinkspace Gallery Sept. 12–Oct 3.
