Intricately detailed paintings of architectural interiors by British artist Ben Johnson based in London. He works from photographs building each painting in stages—from drawing stencils, to color mixing, to actual painting—and each process would take months to finish. Fascinated by geometry, he refers to each painting as "a byproduct of collaboration." As in architecture, which takes a multitude of people to turn a concept into reality, he states that "a building is a manifestation of human ambition and also a collaboration between concept and manual skills of the people who make the idea happen.”
On view at Southampton City Art Gallery Sept. 18 – Jan 23.
