Dense pen and ink drawings of cityscapes by American artist Benjamin Sack inspired by art history and classical music. His work explores architecture as a medium capable of expressing the relationship between realism and abstraction and combines architectural elements from antiquity to science fiction. The intricate cityscapes are drawn with extraordinary complexity and detail that invites the viewer to explore the miniature and sometimes recognizable buildings.
Architecture is my paint and like paint it must be flexible. My intention with the use of architectural forms is to draw along the line of realism and abstraction. When given bits of information, we are able to string them into a pattern and thus something recognizable and meaningful.
