A series of black watercolors exploring the bond between children and horses by Indonesian artist Elicia Edijanto. Her previous work depicted small, vulnerable children with wild animals such as bears, cheetahs, elephants, and buffaloes often acting as companions in hazy, atmospheric landscapes. She hopes that her art will remind people of how human-nature relationships are supposed to be—beautiful, harmonious, and living side by side.
My subjects are often children and animals because they are honest, sincere, unprejudiced and unpretentious and it will be easier for people to feel the emotions. They give me so much inspiration for depicting a particular mood or atmosphere—tranquility, solemnity, wildness and freedom—which I put on my paintings.
