That's It is a line of experimental packaging made of biodegradable material used for organic cosmetics by Vilnius Academy of Arts graduate Austeja Platukyte. The material consisting of only two ingredients—agar dissolved in water and calcium carbonate—is an alternative to non-biodegradable plastic and holds its shape while also lightweight, waterproof and resistant to compression. After the product is consumed, the packaging can be composted or used as fertiliser to retain soil moisture. Even if its discarded as waste, the material will eventually turn to chalk and cause no harm to the environment.
That's It packaging is the result of an experimental practice that was aimed at finding a substitute for synthetic plastic using only natural resources which would later on form a new cycle of nature. I had tested a number of natural materials as well as their mixtures before I came up with the most suitable solution. All the waste produced during the design process has been collected and will be reused later on in other creative practices. One of the packages I had designed was broken and buried in the forest, in the soil covered with leaves from last year so as to verify biodegradation. Although the process is rather slow, clearly visible deterioration should be witnessed in a few months time.+
