New paintings by Houston-based artist Kevin Peterson best known for his depictions of children and wild animals peacefully coexisting in graffiti-laced urban environments. Using photographic references and models, Peterson starts with preliminary studies then renders his surreal compositions in oil. Every element is brought to dimensional life with attention to light, placement, and context. Each painting is meant to capture a fleeting moment—an ambiguous encounter that suggests of a world colonized entirely by unlikely partnerships between the wild and misplaced.
On view at Thinkspace Gallery through September 10.
