Second Nature: Drawings by Mila Libman
Drawings of bodies of water based on photographs with an almost zen-like approach to each work through the repeated action of redrawing and redefining.
In this body of work I continue my inquiry into the nature of drawing and to explore ways to represent my experience of being in nature. I work by way of photographs that I take every year in the Sierras. I begin my process with selecting images that I want to work with. By altering, distilling and distorting the image, the drawing starts to shed its connection with the original. At this point, the process begins to be much more about the internal needs of each piece. My ultimate goal is to arrive to the place when the drawing leaves me with a sense of wonder, the same feeling that I have when I take photographs of nature in the first place.
